Bible Study - Fall 2008

  • Do you ever want to hang out a “back in an hour” sign and just take a little time for yourself?

  • Do you ever long for a little rest, some time to sit and think about the love God has for you without having to worry about what you are wearing or having to put on a happy face?

  • Would you like to do a Bible Study but you are afraid you won’t be able to keep up with the “study” part?*

WBC Ladies Legacy Ministries will present Beth Moore’s Beloved Disciple: The Life and Ministry of John on Wednesday nights, from September through November, from 6:35 until 8:00 in room A113 (the next hall over from where AWANA meets).

Come take a break to do just that. We are inviting the moms of the AWANA kids, some of whom may be visitors to WBC, to participate in this study as well. You may make a new friend or find an old one!

Watch and listen as Beth helps us explore the life of the apostle John. We will learn how John had the God-given gift of seeing a larger picture. This study can help you see the “bigger picture” of your life and help you to trust that you are BELOVED by God as well. Just as Christ took John on a lifelong journey into the depths of His love, He will do the same for you. Christ’s love is unmatched and inexhaustible, and He is waiting to lavish it on you.

*The homework for this study will be minimal (although more in-depth workbooks will be available).

Bible Study - Spring 2008

During Beth Moore's study, Stepping Up: A Journey Through the Psalms of Ascent, we took an in-depth look at 15 Psalms. We spent two days of study on each Psalm. We would say the Psalm, work the Psalm and pray the Psalm. It was incredible the insights that were gained from Psalms 120-132, in just a few short weeks as we made our journey up through the Psalms of Ascent.

Mother/Daughter Banquet

"Watering Your Family Tree"

April 26, 2008, mothers and daughters of all ages enjoyed a special morning together. Lee Ann Hammonds and her daughter,Alaina were our special guest for the morning. They lead us in worship, as we sang together songs we had sung as a child to some contemporary praise songs as well. Lee Ann shared a challenging word from Jeremiah 17:7-8, "But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit."

Also, we had fun playing a game of trivia about mothers and daughters throughout history and making a special frame together to store our memories. And, of course, we had some great food. Lisa Bates served as our caterer for the morning and made some mouth watering quiche.

Bible Study - Winter 2008

We spent several weeks studying "Attending the Bride of Christ" by Martha Lawley. This study helped us see the church as Christ sees her - a shining bride preparing for her Bridegroom. It drew from the rich symbolism of a Jewish wedding as we saw how Jesus uses the marriage relationship to teach us about Himself, His purposes, and His ways.

What impact did this study have?
This study helped me to get my daily “why’s” in perspective. The study emphasized that the life we live on Earth is a time of preparation for the time when we will be reunited with Jesus. Understanding that process helps give purpose where purpose is not apparent. I found the study challenging because it brought up Scriptures I had never really thought about and showed how helpful they can be in my daily life. –Carolyn Brundage

Crop 'till You Drop

February 29, 2008, the novice to the advanced cropper joined together to scrapbook for the evening. We shared ideas, tools, and of course a few snacks as well. It was a lot of fun as we filled the Children's Hallway with pictures, paper, scrapbooks, tool, and lots of chatter about memories we were storing on the special pages each person was creating.

"What Are You Hiding?"

February 7, 2008 we gathered for a Ladies Night Out.

The title for the evening was “What are you hiding?” It’s wasn't about your wrinkles, your weight, or even your sin….it was about God’s Word and hiding Scripture in your heart.

Although many would say they couldn't memorize, they do it all the time. Some things on purpose and other things are just remembered by default. Some things we memorize are important while others are not.... however, we are all memorizing.

We played several games to help us realize how much we are hiding in our minds. But, how much Scripture are we actually hiding in our hearts? Is it very seldom :( ?....or Is it very consistent :) ?

Why should we memorize God's Word:

1. Having God’s word in our hearts will gives us victory over sin.

2. It renews our mind…helps us stay focused on God.

3. Helps us think the way He thinks….many verse will help you fight the lies that the world throws at you from all angles, if you have them planted in your heart.

Whatever is planted in the heart will overflow…Matthew 12:34-35, "How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things."

4. Gives us confidence when witnessing.

Are you hiding Scripture? Do you have a method to keep you consistent and accountable? For those that attended...are you using your box?

Bible Study - Fall 2007

In the fall of 2007, we went through "A Woman’s Heart: God’s Dwelling Place", Beth Moore’s study of the tabernacle. This study discovers the parallels of the tabernacle’s building and your life as a chosen vessel of God.

"'A Woman’s Heart: God’s Dwelling Place' was an amazing study of transformation for me. There are moments when God reaches down and touches your heart so deeply that you know you will never be the same. What I remember most about the study was the symbolism of the tabernacle and the ordinances the Jewish nation had to follow in order for one man to go into the Presence of Mighty God. Learning of the tabernacle brought depth to my understanding of the absolute holiness of God. My heart is overwhelmed to think that the blood of Jesus is so powerful that this Perfect, Holy God of all the universe has come to live in me. He is so worthy of praise beyond our capabilities. Our sin debt is paid and we are free to have a miraculous, personal relationship with our Savior. Do not miss out on this gift of love and joy!"…Jennifer Adams
